We are excited to announce that beginning in late July, “Our Bodies Our Doctors” will be available to watch on-demand on a number of streaming platforms. The film is currently available to educators through Collective Eye. But we now have an official distributor to get the film to the general public.
Wider distribution is an incredible milestone for the film and I am asking for your help so we can prepare for the launch. Our distributor, Gravitas Ventures, requires extensive deliverables on our end including a new trailer, marketing materials, further legal clearances, and outreach efforts to make the launch of the film a blazing success.
Because of supporters such as you, we have carried this project very far. “Our Bodies Our Doctors” had a roaringly successful festival season and won a number of audience awards along the way. Our team organized dozens of screenings around the country. These screenings often included a panel discussion with local experts that helped move the conversation forward on reproductive rights. Earlier this year, I was invited to screen the film in Cork, Ireland as part of a discussion of ongoing obstacles to abortion access within the medical profession there, even with the liberalizing of laws.
With group events shut down for the foreseeable future, we will be working with our partners and community groups to hold online screening events throughout the country. “Our Bodies Our Doctors” is a powerful medium for the message that abortion care is necessary work and highlights inspiring stories of courageous professionals who have been on the front lines of health care for a long time. We depend on abortion providers and other care workers to be there for us.
We are asking that you give directly to Specular Productions, LLC—the company established to oversee production of “Our Bodies Our Doctors” and outreach, including community screenings and deliverables for Gravitas. You may contribute to this project through the PSU Foundation as a tax-deductible gift. However, the University and PSU Foundation are undergoing lay-offs and many are working remotely. We want to support efforts to reduce workloads during the pandemic. Giving directly to Specular means that your contribution will be immediately available to the team and will go directly to where it is needed most in these critical months before the launch of the film.
Stay tuned for more details closer to the release date!
I thank you deeply for your support.
